Super Trucks at the Metrodome in July

Join us at the Metro Dome in Minneapolis for Stadium SUPER Trucks! It’s a new breed of off-road racing, which involves high-powered trucks racing side-by-side on challenging dirt tracks consisting of huge jumps, crossovers and tight corners. And it's going to be awesome. Looking for something exciting to do this summer? Look no further!

Vikings Hold Double-Digit Lead in Dome

The Minnesota Vikings have held double-digit leads going into the second half of every game this year. The Kansas City Chiefs haven't held a lead at any point.

However, the teams have more in common than you would think: both sit at 0-3 and at the bottom of their respective division.

The Vikings are looking to pick up a win and avoid their first 0-4 start since 2002. This 0-4 team is the best first half team in the game so far this year, outscoring their opponents 54-7 in the first half while losing 6-67 in the second half.

The Chiefs who started 3-0 last year are staring an 0-4 start in the face for the first time in three years. They have given up an NFL-leading 109 points and have scored a league-low 27.

Both these teams look pathetic on paper and desperate on the field. I was at both the Vikings-Buccaneers and the Vikings-Lions games and trust me, the crowd turned ugly at the sight of our Vikings throwing away double-digit leads.

Minnesota has lost all three of its visits to Kansas City since winning its first one in 1974... at least they'll be on the road. Vikings fans shouldn't have to put up with anymore opposition cheering in the Dome.

Metrodome Activities: Rollerblading

Did you know that you can rollerblade on the Metrodome concourses? For specific dates and times, visit http://www.roller-dome.com/ - it’s usually four hour time blocks in the evenings during the week and costs $6.50 for adults and $5.50 for students. They even offer free rollerblading lessons! If you are looking for something to do with your kids some week night when they are feeling antsy from being trapped inside all the time, this would be the perfect thing.

Hope to see you at the Metrodome Minneapolis!

Future of Minneapolis Metrodome

The future of the Minneapolis Metrodome has been a topic of discussion for about a decade, now. The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission (they run the dome) are trying to figure out what to do with the stadium after the Gopher Football team moves out next year and the Minnesota Twins move out the following year. The Minnesota Vikings will still remain for another year after that, but there is no doubt that they will continue pushing for a new stadium.

The people who run the dome conducted a survey of state residents and determined that 92% of Minnesotans want to keep the Vikings (duh!) and that 85% think Minnesota needs a stadium with a roof (too bad the Twins didn’t listen to that survey!) . Now, the commission is going to put together a new stadium package at a cost of $953 million (the HHH Metrodome only cost $55 million to build) and is going to start working on city leaders to raise taxes to pay for it. It will be an interesting next few years as the Metrodome future is determined once and for all. The current Metrodome was a hotly discussed project in the 70’s, you can bet it’s replacement will be as well!

Metrodome Sports and Music

The Metrodome Minneapolis is a well known sports facility hosting the NFL Minnesota Vikings and the MLB Minnesota Twins and the University of Minnesota Golden Gopher football and baseball teams. One thing many Metrodome fans forget is that the Metrodome can host concerts as well. In fact, the HHH Metrodome has hosted more than a half-million people watching infamous shows from Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, George Strait, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Metallica and The Rolling Stones. The Metrodome hasn’t hosted a big name music act for quite some time. The Target Center Minneapolis and the Xcel Energy Center St Paul seem to scoop up all the big name acts first!

Metrodome TwinsFest Future

The Metrodome Minneapolis hosted over 30,000 people at the 2008 Twins Fest. There were over 30 Minnesota Twins Players in attendance and the event was a great opportunity for Minnesota Baseball fans to get autographs and hang out on the Metrodome field.

I am sure many Minnesota Twins fan is wondering what will happen to TwinsFest when the Twins open the new stadium 2010. It will be difficult to hold a fan festival in January in an open air stadium – brrrr! Do you suppose the Twins will still hold it at the HHH Metrodome? Will the Metrodome welcome them back with open arms? I am sure that is something both the Twins and Metrodome managers will have to mull over in the years to come.

Metrodome on Prime Time

Virtually no one else outside of the state of Minnesota has noticed this but the Minnesota Vikings play the Chicago Bears on 12/17 which is Monday Night Football. There is also a very good chance that the game time for the Minnesota Vikings versus the Washington Redskins time will be changed for noon to 7:00 pm. That would be two Vikings Football games at the Metrodome on prime time television in one month. Not bad for a NFL team and NFL venue that four weeks ago were left for dead. It will be fun to have the Minneapolis Metrodome rocking in December. Who knows, Maybe there will even be a home playoff game?
