Home Away From Dome?

If you've been in Minnesota at all during the last year and pay even a nod to sports, you know the Vikings are in negotiations with the State to build a new stadium. Currently the Minnesota Vikings play all their home games in the Metrodome, but are looking to move out to the 'burbs, in particular Arden Hills. This move has been dubbed 'Plan A.'

As of the last public figure released, the Vikings were set to pour in $407 million in addition to any project overrun costs. The State would pick up the remainder, however the divying up of road improvement costs has remained up in the air throughout all negotiations.

Recently, the price tag for the Vikings has been raised to half a billion dollars. That's right; $500 million.

Another figure I heard the other day... 25% of U.S. jobs have disappeared for good, permanently. That means the job market is only 80% of what it recently used to be.

The bright side of spending so much to build a new stadium? An influx of the supply of jobs for local Minnesotans. Let's just hope the Vikings hire locally for as much of the work as possible. Minnesota has been a sort of 'safe spot' from the recession and it would be in society's best interest to keep it that way!

As for the money, I would look in the couch cushions...

Post-Dome Repair: Dome Now Requires New Turf

Metrodome Roof CollapseThe one-year-old Metrodome turf won't be around to see another Minnesota Vikings season. After the dome roof collapsed under a couple feet of snow this past winter, it has been deemed that the turf sat under water for too long to be viable for re-use.

The low end of the bidding places replacement cost at $476,000. The highest end of the spectrum places the cost at $784,000. However, Steve Maki, the Dome's chief engineer recommended the commission go with the lowest qualified bid.

No matter whom the project contractor is, the Dome turf is set to be replaced by August 20th, when the stadium will be open to the public for tours.

My Roof is Finally Fixed

The roof of the Metrodome was finally fixed today!

It's been seven long months, but the roof of the Metrodome was finally fixed Wednesday. The roof went up way faster than expected. You know what this means.

The Vikings are one step closer to playing games this year. Sure, the NFL Lockout still needs to be resolved, but at least the Vikings have somewhere to play when the lockout ends. Thank goodness, I was worried there for a second.

And it's still funny to think that when it initially happened that people thought that they were going to be able to play in the Dome only 6 days later. Yeah right!

Now What for the Metrodome?

With news of the new Vikings stadium what will happen to the Metrodome in 2-3 years? While it might be a dump, it holds lots of memories for both young and old. The two Twins World Series titles. The 1998 Vikings and the first year Brett Favre suited up in the purple and gold all hold a special place in the hearts of Minnesota sports fans. As bad of a place as it was, I surely miss it. Personally, I was lucky enough to go inside the Metrodome this past year when I went to state for boys soccer when I was the manager for SPA. Being around my friends and getting to step onto the same field many of the greats have stepped on was a chilling experience. All in all it was a really cool place and it will hold a special memory in my heart. How about you? And what do you think we should do with it?

Metrodome Roof Collapse

Metrodome Minneapolis Roof Collapse Inside View from TODAY

A friend just sent me a picture from inside the Metrodome Minneapolis. He said that it looks as though they have months of work to do in order to open the Metrodome back up. By the looks of the picture, I tend to agree. I wonder if we will ever see the Minnesota Vikings play at the Metrodome in Minneapolis again? Perhaps I should save my Vikings Ticket stub from the Vikings Bills game because that could be a collectors item!

Minnesota Vikings Playoff Tickets

It looks as though the Minnesota Vikings and the Minneapolis Metrodome are going to host at least one 2010 NFL Playoff Game with a chance of hosting the NFC Championship Game. At this point, you can purchase Minnesota Vikings Playoff Tickets for as little as $100/Ticket! I am sure that prices will soar if the Vikings play the Green Bay Packers in a playoff game at the Metrodome. I can't wait to head down to the Metrodome for some NFL Playoff action and cheer on my favorite NFL team. I just hope that they have better luck than the did last year versus the Philadelphia Eagles. GO VIKES!!!

Vikings Preseason Tickets

I took my kids down the Minnesota Vikings game yesterday and was surprised to find that I could buy Minnesota Vikings Tickets for only $10/Ticket from Ticket King. I felt pretty lucky considering the fact that it was the first time that Brett Favre wore a Minnesota Vikings jersey. I hope that the same type of prices are available for the Vikings vs. Dallas Cowboys game in a few weeks at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Those prices, make it totally affordable to take the family to a Vikings game before the Vikings Tickets become more expensive once the regular season starts. I highly recommend checking out Ticket King the day of any Vikings game. The prices are totally reasonable. GO VIKES!!!

MN Twins return to the Metrodome on Monday

While most Twins fans have been sitting on their couches screaming at the TV watching more pitching issues play out on the road, the staff at the Metrodome has been gearing up for a two series stretch at home for that starts Monday. The Twins will be back at home for a week which is more time then they have spent in the Metrodome in almost a month, which means that Twins fans will be scooping up Twins Tickets and packing the seats to eat Dome Dogs and hopefully watch happy ending baseball.

The Twins kick off their home stretch with a 3 game series against the Chicago White Sox that runs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with all night games. The Twins and the Ticket-takers at the dome have Thursday off before staring a second 3 game series against the Los Angeles Angels.

If you have been missing the Metrodome as much as I have lately, not only for the Dome magic but also just because it feels like home... don't miss your chance to see the Twins play at home next week!

All is quiet at the Metrodome

With the Twins on the road for the rest of this week it has been pretty quiet at the Metrodome this week. The Twins will return home in early July for a 10 day run at home, with a game on July 4th against Detroit the Metrodome sounds like a great place to spend Independence day and how fitting to be wearing red, white and blue jerseys.

Other games coming up at the Metrodome are:
Fri June 27, Amateur Baseball
Fri July 3- Sun July 5, Twins vs. Detriot
Tues July 7- Thurs July 9, Twins vs. New York
Fri July 10- Sun July 12, Twins vs. Chicago

The Minnesota Twins are exctied to get back home to the Metrodome Minneapolis. The Twins Metrodome Schedule is pretty busy over the next few weeks with the following series:

Minnesota Twins vs Cleveland Indians June 2-4

Minnesota Twins Home Opener

The Minnesota Twins Home Opener is less than a week away! Can you believe that the “boys of summer” will be taking the Metrodome field in less than a week? And just think this is the FINAL HOME OPENER at the Metrodome. I am starting to become quite nostalgic - I think I might miss the white Teflon roof and the blue plastic chairs and the baggie in right field…well, maybe I won’t miss every thing about the Metrodome, but the place does hold a lot of Minnesota Twins history.

This will be the good-bye season for the HHH Metrodome and the Twins have a lot of fan oriented activities planned as we say good-bye to the home field that awarded us two World Series Championships and is the birth place of waving the “Homer Hanky”. I will for sure be making plans to see the Minnesota Twins several times this season at the Metrodome just to say good-bye. There are great Minnesota Twins Tickets available from local ticket brokers like Ticket King if you are looking to sit between the bases!

Metrodome Update

Woah. It has been awhile since I have written in this Metrodome blog. I better get busy and get this blog up to speed. Right now, the Metrodome is busy getting ready for a big football weekend. Tomorrow the Metrodome will be the home field for the Golden Gophers football team as they host the Michigan Wolverines in the battle for the little brown jug. If the Gophers win, it will be huge!

Then on Sunday, the Metrodome is home to the purple and gold Minnesota Vikings as they host the biggest rivalry game of the season Green Bay Packers. Brad Childress has never beat the Green Bay Packers in his career as the Vikings head football coach so you can bet he is itching to get a win under his belt.

Either event will be a blast for Metrodome Patrons – so don’t just sit on the couch this weekend, head over to Minneapolis for some football!

Cheap Golden Gopher Football Tickets

The last gasp of summer is upon us and I found myself in a conundrum for my weekend plans. The Twins are out of town this weekend and theVikings are still a couple weeks out from their first regular season scheduled home game at the Metrodome. On top of the Minnesota teams being out of town for a while, and flying through money like it’s going out of style at the state fair, my kids have been bugging me to get tickets to some sort of game all week. So, I’m scouting around online and I find cheap Minnesota Golden Gopher football tickets on sale. That’s when I noticed that the Gopher Football season starts this Saturday at the metrodome versus Northern Illinois and the Gopher Tickets are super cheap! I actually found some tickets going for less than $10 per ticket!!

So, I called and luckily for me (and maybe you) I grabbed some of the $10 Golden Gopher Football Tickets. Ticket King had great prices on all Gopher Football Tickets, but I couldn't resist tickets to the Northern Illinois game for so cheap. Keep in mind, this is also the last season that the Minnesota Gophers are playing football at the Metrodome. Next year, they move to that fancy stadium (that went up overnight, it seems) and I’m sure the price of tickets will go up once they get over there. So this Saturday, not only do I get to be the hero to my kids and take them to a Gopher football game, but I get to keep my bank account in the green. Go Gophers!!

Metrodome Hosts All Teams

Over the next two weeks the Metrodome Minneapolis will host all three of its “home teams.” The Minnesota Twins will play the Oakland Athletics in a three game series that starts tonight and ends Wednesday. The Minnesota Vikings will play their third pre-season game on Saturday August 23rd vs the Pittsburgh Steelers and then the following Saturday the Golden Gophers Football team will take the field kicking off the 2008 Gopher football season vs. Northern Illinois. It will be the last time the Gopher football team will start a season at the Metrodome. There are still great tickets to all three events from local ticket brokers like Ticket King. Check out Metrodome tickets today!

Boston Red Sox at the Metrodome

Wow! The Metrodome was in full swing with the 2007 World Champion Boston Red Sox making a series stop here in the Twin Cities. Fans from all over the northern Midwest packed the Metrodome to watch a great homestand against the reigning Boston Red Sox. The ‘New Look’ Twins have continued doing what they do best; winning games with fundamental defense and a strong hitting lineup and so far, it’s worked for them. The Twins are 12-6 at the Metrodome Minneapolis this year, and stand at a .158 since the start of the season back on March 31, the earliest season opener in the Twins history.

Looking around at the Metrodome crowd this weekend, I was somewhat surprised to notice the absence of Red Sox jerseys and caps with the letter ‘B’ on them. Even though this Twins ball club has a lot of new faces, it’s still abundantly clear that Twins fans are loyal to their team. Usually, when a team wins the World title, they tend to attract a slue of fair-weather fans, but here in Minnesota, the Twins are synonymous with springtime, the only professional indoor baseball stadium in the country, and in my opinion, the best fans! See ya at the Dome!

Metrodome Baseball

The Boys of Summer are back! The Metrodome has hosted 4 Minnesota Twins baseball series so far this year. The Twins came out strong in the opener whipping the Anaheim Angels, but the rest of the month the Twins have hovered around .500 even at home. Let’s hope the Twins can pick up the pace and gain some momentum and added Twins fan support or the Metrodome might become a lonely ballpark.

I Love the Metrodome

For those of you lucky enough to have Minnesota Twins Tickets for opening night tomorrow, you should thank your lucky stars that the Minnesota Twins haven't moved out of the Metrodome yet. If you haven't seen tomorrow's forecast, the Twins Cities are supposed to get 5-6 inches of snow. That doesn't affect the Twins game tomorrow but it sure will affect a Minnesota Twins game in two years when they move out of the HHH Metrodome and into their new stadium. When you are sitting inside the dome and it is 70 degrees inside but only 25 degrees and snowing outside, please remember all of the benefits of the Dome. It might not be pretty, but tomorrow, it will be perfect.
