The one-year-old Metrodome turf won't be around to see another Minnesota Vikings season. After the dome roof collapsed under a couple feet of snow this past winter, it has been deemed that the turf sat under water for too long to be viable for re-use.
The low end of the bidding places replacement cost at $476,000. The highest end of the spectrum places the cost at $784,000. However, Steve Maki, the Dome's chief engineer recommended the commission go with the lowest qualified bid.
No matter whom the project contractor is, the Dome turf is set to be replaced by August 20th, when the stadium will be open to the public for tours.
