Minnesota Vikings to Host the Super Bowl

The Minnesota Vikings stadium authority's executive director Ted Mondale and the Vikings said they envision the stadium competing to host a Super Bowl, perhaps as early as 2017, a Final Four and even a Big Ten championship football game.

What! Wow! Way to go Vikings. Let's get the Super Bowl here in Minne!

The Metrodome hosted Super Bowl XXVI in 1992. A 25-year wait may be enough before Minnesota gets the game again.

Adrian Peterson Arrested

You hardly ever hear great things in the off season when it comes to the Minnesota Vikings...

Adrian Peterson was arrested in Houston, Texas early Saturday morning after an incident with police. Police say it took three hours to subdue him. Duh. He is the best running back in the league. He is never subdued.

The 27-year-old was finally handcuffed with the help of a third officer.

While Peterson contests that reports are false and that the truth will come out in time. Peterson hired Rusty Hardin to represent him after being charged with resisting arrest Saturday.

Percy Harvin has a Bad Attitude

It appears that Percy Harvin is still a jerk.

He has requested a trade from the Minnesota Vikings, which is, from what I understand, not the first time.

I seriously doubt the Vikings are willing to trade away Harvin since the Vikes aren't particularly deep at wide receiver. Harvin knows this. So why make the fans hate you?

Minnesota winters are brutal enough without having every fan in the state giving you the cold shoulder. Harvin is going to have to buck up and settle in with the Vikings. He can do that with everyone eventually forgetting his little lapse of love or he can do that in front of a screaming crowd calling for his removal from the field.

Remember all those 'Fire Childress' chants and posters? Yea, we are those fans.

Get your act together, Harvin. For your own good.

Adrian Peterson Highly Ranked in Players Poll

Our very own AP was the highest-ranked back among the most-represented offensive position in the year's NFL Top 100 players poll.

The honor comes after a season in which he didn't quite reach the 1000-yard mark for the first time in his five-year career. Peterson was limited to 12 games in the 2011-12 season.

Peterson was ranked No. 3 in the poll last year.

No surprisingly since Peterson is known for his unwavering and intense work ethic, the running back is on pace to return for the 2012 season opener on September 9 after knee surgery in December. Congratulations to Adrian Peterson! Way to represent the Minnesota Vikings in a positive light!

Vikings' Jerome Simpson Suspended

The NFL has suspended Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson for the first three games of the 2012 season, punishing him for a felony drug conviction tied to a marijuana shipment to his home last fall.

The Vikings are especially good at picking up gentlemen. That's for sure.

Buy hey, who cares, right? They are here to play football, not to be the 'boys next door'.

Metrodome Photos

I recently went around Minneapolis, St. Paul and a few of the surrounding suburbs to take photos of all the great venues! I took pictures of 24 total venues.

Enjoy these Metrodome photos! I'm thinking I need to go back and take some pictures of the plaza...

Percy Harvin at OTAs

Percy Harvin made an appearance at the organized team activities, but has yet to participate. Recall, Harvin is recovering from a minor shoulder surgery he had on April 24. The surgery's purpose was to clean out bone spurs.

Harvin isn't expected to miss much time.

Also missing from OTA participation is another Vikings' star, Adrian Peterson. AP is still rehabbing from his torn ACL.

Vikings ball is right around the corner. Don't miss your chance to score some great tickets!

Minnesota Lawmakers Approve Vikings Stadium

Minnesota lawmakers approved plans for a nearly $1 billion stadium for the Vikings to keep the National Football League team in Minneapolis for at least another three decades.

The proposed stadium, which would open in 2016, would be the fourth-most expensive NFL stadium ever. The construction bill to taxpayers, $498 million, would be the second biggest public subsidy for an NFL stadium, after the $620 million paid by Indiana taxpayers for the Indianapolis Colts stadium several years ago.

The Vikings Stadium deal makes Minnesota, population 5.3 million, the latest small market to shell out big bucks for a major sports stadium.

Voting Day on Vikings Stadium

Construction workers and Minnesota Vikings fans make up the hard hats and jerseys mingling at the state Capitol chanting, "Build it!" Today is the critical vote on a proposed $1 billion stadium.

Gov. Mark Dayton greeted the group and praised their support in the hours before an afternoon debate in the House.

The House vote may not come until after midnight. A Senate vote would come next on a separate version of the bill.

We will keep you posted.

Stadium Highlight: Minneapolis Metrodome

The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, commonly referred to as the Metrodome, is the home of Mall of America Field and is located at 900 South 5th Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Metrodome replaced Metropolitan Stadium, which was on the current site of the Mall of America. The Metrodome is the ninth oldest stadium in the National Football League and has been the home of the Minnesota Vikings for over 30 years.

The Metrodome was named in the honor of former mayor of Minneapolis, U.S. Senator and U.S. Vice President, Hubert Humphrey. Hubert Humphrey died in 1978. After several name proposals, Hubert H. Humphrey was the clear choice. Because of his dedication to the state and to teamwork, the Metrodome was appropriately named in Humphrey's honor.

Since 1982, the combined attendance at Metrodome events exceeds 55 million people, making it the most versatile and heavily used stadium in the nation. There are 64,000 seats in the arena and 115 suites. The ever-busy Metrodome is the only stadium in the world to have hosted all of the following: the NFL Super Bowl (1992), Major League Baseball's All-Star Game (1985), two World Series (1987, 1991), and the Final Four of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship (1992, 2001).

More than half a million people have come to the Metrodome to see concerts by major performers such as Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Guns N' Roses, Faith No More, Metallica, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, George Strait, Tom Petty and The Grateful Dead.

Unique in design and legendary for noise level, the Metrodome is a staple in the Minneapolis skyline.

Matt Kalil and the Minnesota Vikings

USC left tackle Matt Kalil will offer the Minnesota Vikings a player capable of starting right away. The Vikings have always invested in the offensive line. The investment has typically paid off as the Vikings have always had strong offensive line plays.

Kalil is the undisputed top tackle in the draft and is seen as a foundation piece for an offensive line. He comes from a big school and has faced top competition and is equally adept at blocking in either the passing and running games. Picking Kalil would solidify Minnesota's offensive line in two spots, left tackle and left guard

2011--DeMarcus Love, Arkansas: sixth round (168th overall) -- still with the Vikings
2010--Chris DeGeare, Wake Forest: fifth round (161st overall) -- still with the Vikings
2009--Phil Loadholt, Oklahoma: second round (54th overall) -- still with the Vikings
2004--Nat Dorsey, Georgia Tech: fourth round (115th overall) -- traded to Cleveland Browns, September 2005, out of the league
2002--Bryant McKinnie, Miami: first round (seventh overall) -- released, August 2011, signed with the Baltimore Ravens

Stadium Deal Updates

Negotiators for the House of Representatives and charitable gaming interests struck a deal this weekend to provide more tax relief for charities. The agreement potentially removes one of the remaining obstacles blocking the Vikings stadium bill.

The stadium bill - which would put a new stadium next to the current Metrodome, financed with $427 million from the Vikings, $398 million from the state and $150 million from Minneapolis - has had one hearing in the Senate but no vote. Monday will be its first hearing in the House.

61% Support New Vikes Stadium

A recent poll of 1,000 people throughout Minnesota found a majority approval rating for a new Vikings stadium at the current Metrodome site. 61 percent favor the same location. 72 percent of those polled say the new stadium is "somewhat or very important" to keeping the Vikings in Minnesota.

30 percent were opposed and nine percent were undecided.

Similar results of other polls support the findings.

Vikings Stadium Bill Stuck in Senate.

Vikings officials seeking a new stadium remain optimistic even though a funding bill stalled in its first test at the Capitol this week. Gov. Mark Dayton cast doubt any vote will happen this legislative session unless Republican leaders get on board.

Bah.

Shocker.

Tommie Baseball at the Dome

Me being a Tommie, I have to bring notice to the season opener between St. Scholastica and St. Thomas at the Metrodome today. Go Tommies!

The teams will be playing two games starting at 5 p.m.

St. Thomas, which lost 10 of its first 14 games in 2011, came back to win 17 of its next 18 games and advanced to its 16th NCAA regional in the past 17 years.

St. Scholastica is ranked 14th this season after going 37-7 last season while advancing to the regional final for the second time in four seasons.

Good luck to the Tommies, bring home some wins!

Vikings Stadium Plan Back at Metrodome Location

The leading proposal for the Vikings stadium appears to be back at the current Metrodome location with one of the original renderings taking back the focus.

All I have to say about this rendering is that the wood paneling is atrocious and that the building looks small and outdated... which is generally not what you want when it hasn't even been built yet!

Keep looking, Minnesota.

Monster Jam at the Metrodome

The Metrodome has been mentioned in the news a lot lately, mostly because of the parking lot that is located next to it. The lot next door is one of the proposed Minnesota Vikings sites. To get the focus back on the Dome, I would like to point out that the Dome is still hosting great events!

On January 19, the Metrodome will be the home for the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam. The Monster Jam will be held on that Saturday at 7:00pm. If you are interested in Monster Jam tickets, you can find them here! Tickets start at $64.00.

Yet Another Minnesota Vikings Stadium Plan

I don't know about you, but I have certainly lost count on how many Vikings Stadium plans are floating around... And yet, here is another:

The latest idea would build the stadium just east of the Metrodome on a parking lot. The new plan would, in theory, cut the time the Vikings would have to play at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank.

Ted Mondale of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission Chairman says the plan could have a new stadium as much as three-fourths done before the Dome would have to be demolished.

I have yet to see an artistic rendering of this proposal, but Google Maps was able to provide me with a visual of the parking lot I assume is at the heart of the location. The lot is denoted by the letter 'A'. Just a guesstimate, but I am thinking three-fourths is an overestimation and that there is no way the new stadium could be 75% completed before the Dome is demolished.

However, I respect Mondale for his great salesmanship seeing as most people probably won't go to the trouble of researching like I did. What... a politician.

TwinsFest 2012 Concludes at Dome

The Minnesota Twins wrapped up TwinsFest 2012 at their old home in downtown Minneapolis. After an estimated 30,000 fans attended the event over three days at the Dome, the Minnesota Twins will now be looking to Spring Training.

This year marked the event's return to the Metrodome, after it was held at the National Sports Center Blaine because the Dome's roof collapsed as a result of heavy snow in December 2010.

More than 60 former, current and future Twins players were at the Metrodome to meet with fans, pose for pictures and sign for autographs.
