Metrodome Roof Collapse
A friend just sent me a picture from inside the Metrodome Minneapolis. He said that it looks as though they have months of work to do in order to open the Metrodome back up. By the looks of the picture, I tend to agree. I wonder if we will ever see the Minnesota Vikings play at the Metrodome in Minneapolis again? Perhaps I should save my Vikings Ticket stub from the Vikings Bills game because that could be a collectors item!

Story of the Decade: Metrodome Roof Collapse
The skyline of Minneapolis looks quite strange today without the white bubble of the Metrodome part of the cityscape. The inflatable Teflon roof of the Metrodome collapsed around 5am Sunday morning after our monstrous snowstorm dumped about 20 inches on Minneapolis.
I am sure this will be the Metrodome story of the decade (and perhaps the theme for many peep dioramas come spring). Unfortunately, the Vikings had to move the Vikings vs. Giants game originally scheduled for Sunday at noon to Detroit's Ford Field with a 6:20pm kick-off tonight.
The best news is that: “Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission chairman Roy Terwilliger said he's optimistic the roof can be repaired in time for the Vikings to host the Chicago Bears in their next scheduled home game on Dec. 20, giving workers eight days to replace three damaged panels and re-raise the Teflon roof.”
The video and pictures are pretty amazing. Here is one of my favorites:

The Metrodome roof has failed three times before. It deflated in 1981, 1982 and 1983, each time due to tears caused by heavy snow. A slight tear also delayed a Twins game briefly in 1986, but other than that – the white bubble has been pretty reliable for Minnesota sports fans.

Metrodome Parking Experience

Other than parking on site (the parking lot at the Metrodome), there are many ramps and surface lots that are privately owned. Most parking ramps and lots will charge anywhere from $15 to $30. The earlier you arrive, along with sometimes the further you park, tends to be cheaper since the lots closest will charge higher.

Last season, Minnesota swept Green Bay winning both games. If Brett does return to the Minnesota Vikings, it will make for another classic showdown between the two rivals. On November 21, you can expect a packed house at Mall of America Field for the Minnesota Vikings.

Can't Wait for Minnesota Vikings vs. Dallas Cowboys October 17th

Already looking forward to the NFL season? Well, that makes two of us. I can't wait to attend the Minnesota Vikings games at the Metrodome this season. The Minnesota Vikings will host the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys, Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, and Chicago Bears at the Metrodome. The game I am most looking forward to is the game versus the Dallas Cowboys on October 17th. After destroying the Cowboys last season in the playoffs the Cowboys are going to look for some revenge. The Dallas Cowboys always come with a big target on their back as they are self-titled "America's Team." It always feels good when the Minnesota Vikings defeat the Dallas Cowboys.

Metrodome Light Rail Stop

A convenient mode of transportation to the Metrodome is the Metrodome Light Rail Stop. It's a great way getting to and from the Metrodome in Downtown Minneapolis. The closest stop on Metro Transit Station for the Metrodome is the Downtown East/Metrodome on the Hiawatha Line. It is the fifth stop southbound. It is about 1 block from the Metrodome and is easily accessible. It's a great way to avoid parking and being stuck in traffic following a game. The stop before the Metrodome stop is Government Plaza and the one following it is Cedar-Riverside.

HHH Metrodome Driving Directions

It's not the easiest to navigate to places downtown Minneapolis. Here's just a reminder how to get down to the HHH Metrodome in the heart of Minneapolis, home of the Minnesota Vikings. The Metrodome is located on 900 South 5th Street, bordered by Kirby Pucket Place, South 11st Street, and 4th Street South. It is located right next to 35W that is easily accesible from Washington Avenue and 3rd Street. 35W runs North and South right next to HHH Metrodome, as well as 94 East and West. The Hennepin County Medical Center is two blocks away on 7th Street.

Get into the Dome for only $5, with a Minnesota Vikings Preseason Ticket.
Sound too good to be true? It’s not! Access to the HHH Metrodome on a Vikings Game day can be yours for the low, low price of $5! That’s right folks, Minnesota Vikings Preseason Tickets are selling for as low as $5… which in itself is unheard of, but with the rumors that the Vikings are still making a big push to leave the HHH Metrodome and that this may be one of the last seasons of anything in the Metrodome, the $5 price-tag on Vikings Preseason Tickets is unheard of! So DO NOT WAIT, if you want to go to a Minnesota Vikings Preseason Game, get your $5 HHH Metrodome Tickets today!

Will a Dome Dog be a Dome Dog without the Minnesota Twins at the Dome??
A highlight of my summer has always been eating Dome Dogs at the HHH Metrodome. Let me just say, "I LOVE ME a Dome Dog." While normal people eat one Dome Dog and call it quits, I am all about the two-fisting... I like one Dome Dog with nothing on it and one Dome Dog with everything on it, gross I know that I can eat that much Dome Dog, but really I love them. However, I really only eat Dome Dogs during Twins season, never during Minnesota Vikings Games and I don't really know why. So my question to all of you is, is it a Dome Dog if the Minnesota Twins aren't there?

Mall of America Field hopes Brett Favre returns to Minnesota Vikings Roster
Like most Minnesota Vikings fans, the Mall of America as a collective thing is waiting right along side with the rest of us to see if Brett Favre will come back for a second year on the Minnesota Vikings Roster. After an ankle injury late in the 2009 Minnesota Vikings Season required Favre to get surgery the status of the seasoned quarterback went into question.
While most Minnesota Vikings Fans are eager to have Brett Favre back, the Mall of America, sponsor of Mall of America Field at the HHH Metrodome, has a vested interest in getting our quarterback back. Sales on Vikings merchandise in several Mall of America stores went up considerably last season when Brett Favre, the NFL legend signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
The Mall of America and its stores could really use another boost in interest like the one Favre started last season. However, even though their name is on the field it seems like they are going to have to just sit and wait like the rest of us.

University of St Thomas Students to Graduate at Metrodome
The University of St Thomas students will graduate at the Metrodome this Saturday, May 22nd due to construction of the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex on the St. Paul campus. I am sure St Thomas grads are a little disappointed to be graduating at the Dome, but on the plus side they will be able to invite as many family and friends as they want since they have 30-40,000 seats available. The Dome will be set up in baseball fashion so I am not sure what kind of views parents will have of their kids receiving the diploma. If you go to the Metrodome this Saturday and see the ceremony, let me know how it goes! I checked the St Thomas web site and they have plenty of details for the students and guests. Check it out here.
I do have to say the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome is definitely a multi-purpose facility.

Heading to the HHH Metrodome soon? Check out the best places to Park Near the Metrodome...
With Spring Graduations and Gopher Baseball, there are lots of upcoming events at the HHH Metrodome. Whether you are a local heading over to watch the Minnesota Golden Gophers Baseaball team or an out-of-towner coming in for one of the graduations happening at the Metrodome, parking near the HHH Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis can be a challenge.
Even as a seasoned "dome veteran" I still have troubles some time figuring out where I can and can't park and what the best place is to find a spot without driving around for hours. So if you are heading to the HHH Metrodome any time soon and are planning on Parking near the Metrodome check out the parking ahead of time!
When I park near the dome I typically leave my car in one of the ramps, although you usually have to walk a little farther than the surface lots, you can almost always find a spot. I like the Government Center Ramp on 5th Ave and 6th Street, or the Riverfront Parking Ramp on 2nd Street and Washington Ave, or Mill Quarter Parking Ramp also on 2nd and Washington. To view Parking Near the Metrodome, follow this link to the City of Minneapolis Parking Map.

HHH Metrodome may continue to be the home of the Minnesota Vikings after the propsal for a new Vikings Stadium was voted down
The Minnesota Vikings had a major blow dealt today to their hopes of getting a new stadium. Just two days after the Minnesota Vikings released their plans for a new stadium that would cost almost $800 Million. The proposal was voted down 10-9 this morning with little hope for revision before the legislator goes on a break in 2 weeks.
Some are saying that the proposal took so long to come about because there was an internal debate about funding from the Vikings Camp... others say that the release of the proposal was strategic so that the legislature would be forced to make a decision before the session ran out. Whatever the motivation was, the Minnesota Vikings will need to come up with a major Plan B before they can even think about moving ahead on finding a new home.
Minnesota Vikings spokespeople have already claimed they WILL NOT be renewing their lease at the HHH Metrodome after the 2011 season, however critics are beginning to think that the line in the sand may have to be re-drawn at the cost of the Vikings pride and credibility. Check back for more updates in the coming weeks.

HHH Metrodome Alcohol Policy make shape Beer Ruling at TCF Bank Stadium
Up until the 2009 Minnesota Gophers Football Season, the HHH Metrodome was the home of the Golden Gophers Football Team. So when fans came to watch Gophers Home Games, they had the opportunity to buy alcohol.
However, when the Gophers moved out of the HHH Metrodome and into TCF Bank Stadium, the Minnesota legislature decided that the University of Minnesota had to enforce an all-or-known rule, meaning they had to provide alcohol to all of the seats in TCF Bank Stadium or known. The University of Minnesota did not want to sell alcohol on the levels where student seating was, so no alcohol was sold last season at TCF Bank Stadium.
Estimates have said that the decision to make TCF Bank Stadium dry cost the University of Minnesota $1 Million... not exactly pocket change. So now the Minnesota State Legislature is working to pass a bill that would allow the U of M to sell alcohol in the premium seats... time will tell, though it is clear that legislatures are considering the fact that the HHH Metrodome successfully sold alcohol at Golden Gopher Football Games for years.

Don't be Sad Twins Fans, even though the Twins Home Opener is not at the HHH Metrodome, there are still great ways to visit the Dome
It seems strange that the Twins Home Opener is not at the HHH Metrodome this year, like most things although I wrote about all the time and I visited Target Field, until very recently it had not struck me that the Minnesota Twins 2010 Home Opener is not going to be at the HHH Metrodome... This sudden pang of missing the Dome inspired me to look through my HHH Metrodome Photos. Here are a few of my favorite HHH Metrodome Pictures

I can't believe that I'm saying this... but wouldn't a New Vikings Stadium be great?
I know that as the writer of a HHH METRODOME blog, I should not be even thinking it... but after touring the Target Field Open House this past weekend I realized that although the HHH Metrodome holds a huge piece of most Vikings or Twins Fans hearts, it is time to say goodbye.
I think I'm finally ready to see a BRAND NEW Vikings Stadium, something state of the art and built specifically for Minnesota Vikings Football. While it seems likely that the 2010 Minnesota Vikings Schedule will be held in full at the HHH Metrodome, I think it is time for Vikings Fans to pull together and demand that the Minnesota Vikings get a new home instead of the Dome (hey maybe that could be the slogan?).
If you agree that the HHH Metrodome should be torn down and a new Vikings Stadium should be built leave me a comment here!

Looking for the HHH Metrodome? Check out the Minneapolis Metrodome Address and the Google Map of the HHH Metrodome
For those of us who live in the Twin Cities, the HHH Metrodome is a landmark that many of us use to give directions from. Although few of Twin Cities Dwellers could really tell you the exact address of the HHH Metrodome, people know where it is and how to get there.
For those of you who are not from the Twin Cities Metro Area, finding the HHH Metrodome in the maze of Downtown Minneapolis one-way streets and construction zones can be a bit frustrating. So I'm making it easy, the HHH Metrodome Adress is
Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome
900 S 5th St
Minneapolis, MN 55415
(612) 335-3336
The Big Question really becomes though, once you find the HHH Metrodome how much longer is it going to be there? My thoughts, for anyone who has not been inside the historic HHH Metrodome, go now before it is too late.

What is in store for the future of the HHH Metrodome?
No one can really say for sure, though many Minnesota Baseball and Football fans are hopeful that the Twin Cities sports mecca will remain untouched. The HHH Metrodome holds more memories for some Twin Cities natives than their grade schools do, the HHH Metrodome housed championship Minnesota Twins teams and Minnesota Vikings teams. Minnesota sporting greats, like Kerby Puckett called the HHH Metrodome home, and many sports fans are just not quite ready to let that go.
However, certain realities about the HHH Metrodome need to be faced, without the revenue of both the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings, changes will have to be made. It is not the most ideal football stadium and if the Vikings are going to continue to call the HHH Metrodome home, changes will have to be made.
My guess is BEST case scenario the HHH Metrodome will undergo MAJOR MAJOR changes in the upcoming Minnesota Vikings Seasons and the Vikings will continue to play home games at the Dome. More likely in my opinion is that the Dome will be torn down and the Vikings will play at TCF Bank Stadium for a few seasons while a new Vikings Stadium is built where the Dome was.
For now it is all speculation, but feel free to throw your 2 cents in too... I'd love to hear what other Dome Lovers are thinking!

Remember when the Super Bowl was at the HHH Metrodome?
Ok, so actually I did not remember off the top of my head either when Minneapolis and the HHH Metrodome hosted the Super Bowl but I did some Dome Research and the memories started flooding back....
Super Bowl XXVI or the 1992 Super Bowl for those of you who don't speak roman numerals and football history was hosted at the HHH Metrodome. The Washington Redskins of the NFC took on the Bufallo Bills of the AFC, beating them 37-24. Despite being two of the highest scoring teams in the league, the game was sloppy and both teams went scoreless for a good part of the first half. The Halftime show was titled "Winter Magic" and highlighted the Winter Olympics from the year. Gloria Estefan performed with Brian Boitano and Dorothy Hamill.
For a real throwback to memory lane check out the top commercial from the 1992 Super Bowl at the HHH Metrodome:

HHH Metrodome hosts Minnesota Twins again
"With Target Field outdoors, TwinsFest would suck anywhere else." One Twins fans reported. The 1,000s of Minnesota Twins fans who came out to see the Minnesota Twins Roster and get all of the scoop on Target Field and the 2010 Twins Season seemed to be thinking the same thing.
Perhaps the Twins-Metrodome Relationship won't be over for good, TwinsFest may live on at the HHH Metrodome forever.

What If the Minnesota Vikings had played the NFC Championship at the HHH Metrodome instead?
I know that there is a certain danger in playing the What If game... What If we hadn't dropped that pass, What If we would have gone for a field goal, What if they wouldn't have slammed Favre repeatedly.... you could go crazy thinking of what if's that might have effected Sunday's NFC Championship vs. the New Orleans Saints.
However, in true Obsessed Vikings Fan Fashion I would like to throw out one more What if. What if the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints had played the NFC Championship Game at the HHH Metrodome instead of the SuperDome? Here is what I think might have been different.
Both the Minnesota Vikings D-Line and O-Line for whatever reason stick to the game plan a lot better within the HHH Metrodome. If that would have been the case than perhaps, Farve would not have been totally smashed into the turf time and time again and then perhaps some of the late in the game passes might have been a little cleaner.
What If's aside, the Minnesota Vikings Clearly play better when they are at home in the HHH Metrodome, the Purple Pride and Skol Vikings Cheers are louder, the players are more rested and everything just works better. So, for this season there is very little we can do... but I'd like to suggest that next season the Minnesota Vikings do EVERYTHING they can so that they get to play the Super Bowl playoff game at home in the Dome. Just think, then you could be buying Minnesota Vikings Tickets for playoff games!!

HHH Metrodome staff gets a break as the Dome sits quiet until August 2010
With the Minnesota Vikings season officially over as of last night (what a loss)... the HHH Metrdome and the HHH Metrodome staff will have an extended break until August 2010 when the Minnesota Vikings start the 2010 Vikings Preseason.
Although private events can be held in the Metrodome, and several on the schedule, the Dome itself for the most part will sit empty and quiet all summer, something that Minneapolis Natives have not seen in years.
With the Minnesota Twins moving out of the Dome and onto Target Field, the Metrodome that once was the home of all Minnesota Professional Sports is going to be a sad site for the summer. Without Minnesota Twins Home Games, this spring and summer there will be no Dome Dogs, no Jumbo Beers, No Nachos and No Metrodome Magic....
So for now, enjoy the rest HHH Metrodome Staff, because as the next Minnesota Vikings Season creeps around you better believe that people will be aching to get back inside one of the biggest sports legends in Minnnesota.

WHAT? HUH? Sound from inside the HHH Metrodome at the Vikings Cowboys was great!
Although the Minnesota Vikings had a disappointing loss yesterday that took them out of the running for the SuperBowl, they spent the Sunday before that inside the HHH Metrodome playing in front of fans that were insanely loud.
Minnesota Vikings Players, fans and coaches all noticed the sound that echoed from the HHH Metrodome as the Minnesota Vikings Roster took on and trampled the Dallas Cowboys. Though to their credit, the Cowboys fans in attednece at the Vikings Dome were loud and proud.... screaming for the Cowboys just about as much as the Vikings Fans could scream "Skol Vikings". What a way to end the Vikings Home Season.

Minnesota Vikings Playoff Game just days away..
The events staff at the HHH Metrodome are certainly working overtime this week getting ready for the NFL Playoff Game that will take place on Sunday at the Dome. The Minnesota Vikings will take on the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday at the Metrodome, for the chance to play in the NFC Championship.
Both teams have an extremely loyal following and the game is expected to be a total sell out. Vikings Fans are saying that they want the Cowboys to walk into the Dome to a sea of purple... though Cowboys fans are known for traveling, so I'm guessing the Metrodome will be a mix of Cowboys and Vikings Fans on Sunday.
There are still some great seats left on the secondary market for the Vikings Playoff Game but these seats are selling quickly and the prices are only going to continue to go up the closer and closer the game gets.
SKOL VIKINGS!

Minnesota Vikings Playoff Mania makes the HHH Metrodome the place to be!
The Minnesota Vikings made the playoffs... not new news, but with the blowout win against the New York Giants this past weekend at the Metrodome, the Minnesota Vikings sealed the deal on playing their first playoff game in the Metrodome.
Very similar to the end of the Minnesota Twins season, the Metrodome has pulled out some of its magic and is getting ready for one of the biggest Minnesota Vikings Playoff Games ever. Minnesota Vikings fans know that they have to win not only on January 17th but also several other stars need to align if the Vikings have a chance of taking on the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship. But fast-forward to that game (if it happens) and just imagine... the Metrodome Mania will be even crazier!
Scoop up Minnesota Vikings Playoff Tickets and don't miss your chance to cheer on the Vikes from the seats of the Metrodome.
